LA is a food hot spot and I always plan the best spots I can find for each day. Everyday I ate somewhere different for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. So my options are vast and here are my favorite bites from this week.

Carmel

Biscuit Cake 2.0

Tiramisu dessert topped with cocoa crumbles

When I hear the name biscuit cake I don’t think of tiramisu. If this was tiramisu this would be the best one I have ever had. Everyone should know the best part of tiramisu is the sweet mascarpone filling and this has 2x the amount. Carmel is a brunch/dinner spot on Melrose serving modern Mediterranean cuisine with Levantine cooking.

This is my second time going to Carmel and both times I devoured this dessert in seconds and wanted more.

Honor Bar

Fried chicken sandwich with swiss cheese, coleslaw, tomatoes, and on a sesame bun.

Dings Crispy Chicken Sandwich, that I hear about as one of the best sandwiches in LA. I have been to Hillstone in Santa Monica over a million times and never even tried it there. I can 100% say it is most likely better at Honor Bar and it broke my expectations.

The seasoning on the breading was spicy, salty, and crispy all over. The coleslaw is perfectly crunchy and acidic which matches perfectly with the rich chicken and sesame bun.

I thought this sandwich was overhyped and it was not!

Cassia

Papaya salad with basil and spiced walnuts
Papaya salad with basil and spiced walnuts

Papaya salad I have had many times when I go to thai restaurants, but I have never had one served like this. Straight papaya that is cold, crisp, and super acidic. The spicy and sweet walnuts at contrast to the salad and make each bite extra special if you get one.

Its so addicting and perfect to have with any entree as it can act as a spicy leveler. I don’t think I will find a better papaya salad!

DiDi

Tender beef sitting in rich sauce on top of crunchy lettuce and golden tomatoes

Shaking beef is usually a hit or miss for me. Some places do it justice and others lack flavor. This one was in a salad and had the flavor, crunch, and tender meat. The sauce on the salad was so addicting being rich and glazing each piece of meat.

I am usually not a fan of hot salads, but the depth of flavor in the sauce was just too good. We ordered this dish 3 times and each one was perfect!

Destroyer

Chocolate black sesame pie with a chocolate crust

Chocolate Black Sesame Pie is the older more mature brother for a peanut butter chocolate pie. Even though the black sesame can be overpowering they mellowed out the paste and

went perfectly with the chocolate ganache.

I could have eaten this whole pie, but since it was on thanksgiving I was already extremely full before dessert came.

This week was full of good bites, but some I didn’t have good pictures and didn’t want to show. I plan to update this a lot more and create guides for places in LA. Let me know what I am missing from my descriptions.

For the Love of Food,

Scusi!
